New Delhi, Feb 25 (NationPress) Delhi Capitals (DC) have brought on board Matthew Mott as their new assistant coach ahead of the IPL 2025 season, as officially announced by the franchise on Tuesday. Mott will be supporting Hemang Badani, who took over as the head coach in October of the previous year. The cricketing setup also includes Venugopal Rao as director of cricket and former Indian fast bowler Munaf Patel as the bowling coach.

Before this, Mott was an assistant coach at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the first two seasons of the IPL under head coach John Buchanan in 2008 and 2009.

His most recent significant role was as the white-ball coach for the England men's national team, where he played a pivotal role in England's victory during the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, he resigned in July of last year after a mixed performance. After leaving the England setup, Mott was appointed as an assistant coach for the Sydney Sixers in the BBL on a three-year contract last September.

The Australian is recognized as one of the most accomplished coaches in women's cricket, having led the Australian women's team to two T20 World Cup titles and a 50-over World Cup title between 2015 and 2022. Under his leadership, the Australian women’s team remained undefeated in four Ashes series.

In the IPL, DC has only made it to the finals once in 16 seasons, which was in 2020, and they finished sixth last season. After parting ways with several high-profile players, they retained only Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel. Additionally, they secured notable players like KL Rahul, Harry Brook, Faf du Plessis, and Mitchell Starc during the mega auction last November.

However, the franchise has not yet announced their captain for the upcoming season.

DC is set to kick off their IPL 2025 journey on March 24 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
