New Delhi, May 17 (NationPress) The Delhi Capitals announced on Saturday that their vice-captain Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs have returned to the squad just ahead of the IPL 2025 resumption.
Meanwhile, the franchise made it clear that Mitchell Starc, the Australian fast bowler, and South African all-rounder Donovan Ferreira will not be available for the ongoing tournament.
In a statement, the franchise expressed, "Delhi Capitals fully respects their decision and wishes them success in their future endeavors."
Due to Starc's absence for the rest of the season, Delhi has signed Mustafizur Rahman from Bangladesh as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk, who is unable to return to India because of personal commitments.
The loss of Fraser-McGurk, recognized last season as one of the most dynamic openers, is a notable setback for the team. However, the addition of Mustafizur significantly bolsters Delhi's bowling lineup. Fraser-McGurk dazzled fans in IPL 2024 with impressive half-centuries and a remarkable 15-ball fifty.
Mustafizur previously donned the Delhi Capitals jersey for the 2022 and 2023 IPL seasons. In 2022, he secured eight wickets across eight matches at an economy rate of 7.62, while the following season saw him take just one wicket in two matches. Overall, he has played 57 matches, achieving 61 wickets at an economy rate of 8.14.
At present, Delhi Capitals find themselves fifth in the points table with 13 points from 11 matches. They remain in the playoff race, needing victories in their final three matches to solidify their chances.
As IPL 2025 resumes on May 17, Delhi Capitals is set to clash with the Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.
