Visakhapatnam, March 30 (NationPress) In a spectacular display, vice-captain Faf du Plessis led the charge for the Delhi Capitals, scoring an impressive 27-ball fifty as they convincingly defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets, maintaining their unbeaten streak in IPL 2025 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
Thanks to the remarkable bowling efforts of Mitchell Starc, who took 5-35, and Kuldeep Yadav with 3-22, DC bowled out SRH for just 163 runs in 18.4 overs. Du Plessis showcased his talent with three fours and three sixes, achieving his half-century at a striking rate of 185.19.
He received solid support from Jake Fraser-McGurk (38), KL Rahul (15), Abishek Porel (34 not out), and Tristan Stubbs (21 not out), as the Capitals completed the chase with four overs remaining. For SRH, debutant leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari impressed with figures of 3-42 in his four overs.
While chasing 164, Fraser-McGurk began strong, executing a slog-sweep off Abhishek Sharma for six, and Du Plessis followed suit with a pull shot off Mohammed Shami that sailed for a maximum. Despite some struggles from Fraser-McGurk, who was dropped twice, Du Plessis kept finding the boundary against Shami, Abhishek, and Cummins, culminating in a spectacular six down the ground.
Du Plessis reached his fifty off just 26 balls but soon after, the 81-run opening partnership ended when Ansari claimed his first IPL wicket by having du Plessis mis-hit to long-on. Fraser-McGurk attempted to carry the momentum with two fours and a six off Ansari before falling for 38.
Rahul's innings in DC colors began with a lucky boundary and he followed it with a majestic slog-sweep and lofted shot off Shami. However, he was out for 15, bowled by Ansari after an ill-judged sweep.
Porel took DC closer to victory with a boundary off Abhishek, followed by a six and four off Ansari. Stubbs added to the score with a four and two more fours off Wiaan Mulder. Porel sealed the game with a brilliant six off Mulder, as the team celebrated a successful home leg in Visakhapatnam.
