Visakhapatnam, March 29 (NationPress) After a thrilling one-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opener, Delhi Capitals are eager to keep their winning streak alive as they face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium this Sunday.
In their opening match, Delhi Capitals found themselves struggling at 113/6 during the 13th over while chasing a challenging target of 210. However, debutant Vipraj Nigam, alongside Ashutosh Sharma, forged a crucial 55-run partnership for the seventh wicket, turning the tide in their favor.
Reflecting on his match-winning partnership with Ashutosh Sharma, the 20-year-old, who scored a brisk 39 off 15 balls, shared, "My role was to ease things for Ashutosh. I managed to hit a few shots, giving him the time to settle in."
"We've played numerous practice matches together, and we’ve conducted drills in the nets. Our strategy was to replicate what we practiced, and thankfully, it worked out well," he added during a pre-match press conference.
The young talent expressed his gratitude to the Delhi Capitals management for the chance and highlighted the need to balance both batting and bowling as an all-rounder. "I am incredibly thankful to the coaching staff and our captain for their trust in me. It’s been a remarkable experience. As an all-rounder, focusing on both aspects is essential, and I have been doing that for my state as well," he noted.
Delhi Capitals' upcoming rivals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, kicked off their campaign with a victory over Rajasthan Royals but faced defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their last game.
Commenting on the match-up, all-rounder Nigam stated, "SRH is a formidable team with a powerful batting lineup. We've devised some strategies during our team meetings and aim to execute them effectively."
The Delhi Capitals, co-owned by JSW and GMR, have received a boost with the return of star wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul, who rejoined the squad following the birth of his daughter. On Rahul's return, Nigam remarked, "Having KL Rahul back in the team provides tremendous balance, considering his exceptional skills."
SRH commenced their IPL 2025 journey with a win over Rajasthan Royals in a high-scoring match where they achieved the second-highest total in IPL history. However, they succumbed to LSG by five wickets, falling to an impressive bowling performance from Shardul Thakur, who claimed 4-34 in his four overs.
As they prepare for their first away match, SRH will aim to bounce back and will rely on their top-order batters, including Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, to put pressure on the Delhi Capitals.
