Lucknow, April 22 (NationPress) Delhi Capitals have won the toss and opted to field first against Lucknow Super Giants in Match 40 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. This match is a critical one for both teams, who are currently tied on 10 points.

The two teams previously faced each other in their first match, where Delhi triumphed by a narrow margin of one wicket, thanks to Ashutosh Sharma who executed an extraordinary run-chase of 210.

Lucknow's top order has proven to be a reliable force this season. The combination of Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran, and Aiden Markram has frequently delivered solid performances, establishing consistent starts during the Powerplay. Pooran’s aggressive hitting, alongside Marsh’s strategic approach and Markram’s steadiness, has rendered LSG’s batting lineup formidable.

Captain Rishabh Pant confirmed that his team will enter the match with an unchanged lineup.

“Definitely (would have bowled first). The way this wicket is playing, it stops a bit in the first innings, and as the game progresses, it improves. My hand is fine. (Things to consider while batting first) It’s going to be on the slower side, but gradually it gets better as you keep batting,” said Pant during the toss.

“So, avoiding too many wickets is crucial, and we’ll play according to the situation. As a team, we focus on our own improvements rather than external factors. We’re sticking with the same XI,” he added.

Conversely, Delhi has made one change, replacing Mohit Sharma with Dushmantha Chameera.

After a strong start to the 2025 season, Delhi has faced setbacks, suffering defeats against Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans in their last three matches, with a Super Over victory against Rajasthan Royals sandwiched in between.

“We’ll bowl first. The red soil wicket and the dew from the last match are factors to consider. If we bowl effectively, we can limit their scoring. We’ve focused on our strengths and areas for improvement. We’re not overthinking things. The Impact Player decision will be made based on the situation. Mohit Sharma is out, and Chameera is in,” said Axar.
