Hyderabad, April 6 (NationPress) Following a remarkable performance by Mohammed Siraj, who achieved his best IPL bowling figures of 4-17, Shubman Gill, the captain, secured an unbeaten 61 to lead the Gujarat Titans to a decisive seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday.

This marks Hyderabad's fourth consecutive defeat while Gujarat celebrated their second victory of the IPL 2025 season.

While chasing a target of 153, Gill handled the pressure of losing in-form Sai Sudharsan (5) and Jos Buttler (0) early in the innings, playing a pivotal role in guiding the team to victory.

Unlike the typical high-scoring pitches in Hyderabad, this one proved to be challenging, with the ball coming onto the bat slowly. Gill, alongside Washington Sundar, who was making his debut for the Gujarat Titans, skillfully maneuvered through the middle overs to keep the scoreboard moving.

Sundar delivered an impressive performance, hitting two fours and two sixes off Simarjeet Singh's over, accumulating 20 runs, thereby alleviating some pressure during the chase.

The partnership thrived at a healthy run rate, capitalizing on loose deliveries. Gill reached his half-century in just 36 balls as Gujarat appeared set to complete the chase comfortably.

Sundar was also closing in on his half-century, but a stunning catch from Aniket Verma off Mohammed Shami dismissed him at 49 runs.

Ultimately, Sherfane Rutherford contributed a rapid 35 not out, featuring six fours and a six, helping the team secure the win with 20 balls remaining.

Gill finished the match unbeaten on 61 from 43 balls, adorned with nine fours, earning Siraj the Player of the Match honor.

Earlier, after being invited to bat, Travis Head hit two consecutive fours off Siraj before the bowler dismissed him on the final ball of the first over.

Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma struggled to score swiftly during the powerplay, only managing 29 runs for the second wicket before Siraj sent Sharma back in the fifth over.

After losing both openers early, Hyderabad was at 45/2 by the end of the powerplay, marking their second-lowest score in nine innings since 2024.

Kishan, having spent some time at the crease, couldn't capitalize on his start and fell to Prasidh Krishna for 17 runs in the eighth over.

Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen provided some much-needed stability to Hyderabad's innings, consistently rotating strikes against Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore.

The pair formed a 50-run partnership for the fourth wicket before Sai Kishore dismissed both batters in successive overs. Klaasen scored 27 runs, including a six and two fours, while Nitish managed 34 runs off 31 balls.

Hyderabad's hopes for a late surge in the death overs were dashed when Krishna dismissed Kamindu Mendis (1) after just five balls, leaving them at 120/6 after 17 overs.

In the next over, Siraj showcased his exceptional death bowling skills, claiming Aniket Verma (18) and Simarjeet Singh (0) to complete his four-wicket haul. His final figures read 4-17, marking his best performance in IPL history.

Pat Cummins contributed 22 not out, hitting a four and a six, while Mohammed Shami assisted with a four in Ishant Sharma's final over to finish at 152/8.

In addition to Siraj's stellar performance, Rashid and Krishna each took two wickets while maintaining economy in their spells.
