Key Takeaways
Delhi, January 30 (NationPress) The Delhi Pro Volleyball League (DPVL) has been officially inaugurated, receiving endorsement from the Delhi Volleyball Association and support from the Delhi Olympic Association.
Former national volleyball athletes Neeti Rawat and Jasoda Gulliya made the announcement that the league will commence in 2026.
Kuldeep Vats, the President of the Delhi Olympic Association and Joint Secretary of the Volleyball Federation of India, attended the launch and pledged complete support for the league.
The league will consist of six franchises and will feature players from both Delhi and other regions of the country. Player selection will occur through transparent and inclusive trials set to take place in the upcoming months.
“Delhi has consistently produced remarkable volleyball talent. The Delhi Pro Volleyball League is a timely and essential initiative that will provide players with a professional pathway while enhancing the volleyball landscape at both state and national levels,” stated Vats.
Sudhir Vats, President of the Delhi Volleyball Association, echoed this sentiment, stating, “This league is crucial for identifying, nurturing, and retaining volleyball talent in Delhi. With a transparent framework and equitable opportunities, DPVL could set a standard for state-level professional leagues in India.”
As noted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “Volleyball is not merely a sport; it fosters coordination, teamwork, and collective resilience.” Embracing this ethos, the capital is poised to establish its presence in the professional volleyball arena with the introduction of the Delhi Pro Volleyball League.
Regarding the league's long-term vision, Jasoda Gulliya, Co-Founder of the Delhi Pro Volleyball League, emphasized, “Our aspiration is to create a professionally governed league that provides stability, transparency, and enduring value to players, franchises, and partners. DPVL is not merely about hosting matches; it's about fostering a sustainable sporting ecosystem where volleyball talent can thrive, earn, and aspire on a global scale.”
In highlighting the necessity of such a league, Neeti Rawat remarked, “Delhi is brimming with volleyball talent; however, players frequently lack a consistent professional platform. DPVL seeks to fill that void by providing athletes with exposure, recognition, and a direct path to higher competition levels.”
During the event, Delhi’s Junior Boys and Girls Volleyball Teams were honored. The Junior Boys team recently secured the runners-up position at the National Championships, underscoring the need for a professional league like DPVL to offer young players a suitable platform to gain visibility and advance in their careers.
