Varanasi, Jan 4 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the 72nd National Volleyball Tournament on Sunday through a video conference, marking a pivotal event for volleyball in India. Athletes nationwide have praised this initiative, emphasizing the increasing institutional support, enhanced facilities, and broader opportunities available to players in the current sports landscape.

The tournament, taking place from January 4 to 11, hosts over 1,000 players from 58 teams representing various states and institutions across the country. The event aims to highlight the competitive spirit, sportsmanship, and the rising talent in Indian volleyball.

In response to the Prime Minister’s speech, Assam player Swapnil Hazarika expressed his optimism for the future of sports in India. “What Modi ji mentioned about Kashi was uplifting. He is doing outstanding work in promoting sports. Many players are stepping up to compete, including seasoned athletes. India is progressing rapidly, and we may soon qualify for the Olympics. I extend my gratitude to Modi ji for this opportunity and for organizing such an incredible event,” he shared with IANS.

Local player Utkarsh Sharma commended the emphasis on sports development and grassroots initiatives. He remarked, “Modi ji is dedicated to advancing sports development. A junior national championship was recently held which allowed us to compete. Young athletes are getting the chance to play and advance, with job opportunities via the sports quota as well. I urge continued support for our endeavors, and we will strive to make our nation proud.”

Ritika from Andhra Pradesh noted the motivational impact of the Prime Minister's engagement, stating, “PM Modi inspired us and elaborated on the promising future of sports. Numerous opportunities are being created because of his support, and we feel immense pride. Our future hinges on our performance. Substantial investments are being made to enhance our facilities, for which we are thankful.”

Delhi player Kohina Goyal highlighted the overarching vision conveyed during the address. She noted, “The most remarkable aspect of his speech was the connection he drew between our sport and the nation’s future, urging us to advance our sport meaningfully. The contributions of players and the policies established by him are propelling sports forward. Our country is rapidly advancing in sports and will continue achieving new heights. A heartfelt thank you for his support and exceptional facilities. With continued support, we will excel and elevate our nation.”

Another participant, Aakash Kumar, emphasized the importance of hosting the championship in a new location, stating, “This is the first time a championship is being held here, and many positive changes have occurred. Significant improvements have taken place, including hosting a national-level event for the first time. We are confident of ongoing support for our future endeavors. With this kind of backing, the sport will flourish immensely.”
