London, July 24 (NationPress) Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh reflected on his relationship with Shikhar Dhawan, stating that the former opener feels like a younger brother to him, and he desires for him to continue evolving each day.
Dhawan organized a remarkable event titled 'Beyond The Boundary' at the renowned Lord’s Cricket Ground, attended by prominent cricketers such as Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, and others.
“Shikhar has always been a younger brother to me. We have played a lot of cricket together. And more than cricket, he is like a brother to me. So, I want him to keep on growing every day and contribute to society as well. So, a lot of love, a lot of affection,” Harbhajan shared with IANS during the 'Beyond the Boundaries' event in England.
Dhawan had a significant impact on the Indian top order over a career that spanned more than 12 years. He retired from international cricket last year, having played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is, accumulating a total of 10,867 runs.
Both Dhawan and Harbhajan extended their best wishes to the Indian Test team currently engaged in the fourth Test against England in Manchester.
“All my best wishes are with them; they’re playing excellent cricket. And I'm extremely proud of them. India is currently behind 1-2 in the series. They displayed remarkable character as a team; they are quite young. Winning the second game after losing the first one was a testament to their spirit. I believe they are playing superb cricket. Although it’s 2-1 at present, I’m confident they will turn the tide for us,” Dhawan expressed.
Harbhajan added, “I wish them all the luck. They are demonstrating strong form despite being 2-1 down. They have made us proud by playing tough cricket, showing the right intent. I wish them the best, and I hope they perform well in Manchester. When they return to London for the Oval match, the conditions will be ideal for Team India.”
After a solid start from the openers, India fought back on the opening day at Old Trafford, thanks to B. Sai Sudharsan’s impressive 61, marking his first fifty in Tests.
Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur navigated a challenging phase of play to conclude Day 1 of the Manchester Test with India at four wickets down for 264.
