New Delhi, Sep 1 (NationPress) Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain have come to an agreement on the structure of a transfer deal for the sidelined Gianluigi Donnarumma as the transfer deadline approaches on Monday.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Manchester City has approved the acquisition of the Italian goalkeeper and plans to let Ederson leave, amid rumors of a possible move to Fenerbahce, contingent on Donnarumma's arrival.
The 26-year-old announced his exit from the reigning European champions, revealing that 'someone' had determined he was no longer included in the team's plans.
"Regrettably, someone has decided that I am no longer able to contribute to the group and assist in the team's achievements. I feel let down and disheartened," stated Donnarumma in his post.
Donnarumma was instrumental in PSG's remarkable treble-winning season, and his outstanding performances in the UEFA Champions League led the Parisians to win the prestigious title for the first time in their history.
Ederson, who joined City in June 2017 for £35 million from the Portuguese club Benfica, has had a stellar career in Manchester, clinching the Premier League title six times and aiding the club in capturing the Champions League trophy for the first time in 2023. Over his tenure, he has made 372 appearances and recorded 168 clean sheets.
Recognized for his exceptional ability to play the ball from the back, Ederson also holds the record for the most assists by a goalkeeper in Premier League history, with seven assists to his credit.
Before the match against Brighton, which City lost 1-2, Guardiola acknowledged that Ederson's departure could be prolonged due to the later transfer deadlines in Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
"To clarify, the atmosphere and mood among the players, as well as uncertainties for some, could be improved. However, on Monday (deadline day), it will either happen, or perhaps the transfer windows in Turkey or Saudi Arabia are still open a bit longer," Guardiola mentioned.
The transfer window for the Saudi Pro League closes on September 10, while Turkey's window ends on September 11.
"I am concentrating on the Manchester City players I currently have, treating them as we always do. I have no complaints regarding how the club takes care of them, never at all."
