New Delhi, Feb 20 (NationPress) - The esteemed Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, is set to spearhead the 62nd edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle on February 22, 2026, originating from the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. This nationwide cycling initiative is in celebration of India securing the hosting rights for the Commonwealth Games 2030.
The event is being organized in collaboration with the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) and also commemorates ESIC’s 75 years of dedicated service and social security. Joining the union minister at the Delhi event will be Olympic bronze medallist Rupinder Pal Singh and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Rohit Tokas.
Ahmedabad has been designated as the host city for the Commonwealth Games 2030, and India is also pursuing a bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympic Games.
“India will be hosting a multi-discipline event, the Commonwealth Games, after a gap of 20 years in 2030. This is a moment of pride for every Indian. The Modi Government is fully committed to transforming Bharat into a sports powerhouse by creating a sustainable ecosystem spanning policy reforms, infrastructure development, talent identification, and athlete nurturing. We will leave no stone unturned in realizing our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of hosting the Olympic Games in 2036,” stated Mandaviya.
“Simultaneously, initiatives like Fit India Sundays on Cycle, including the upcoming edition organized with ESIC in honor of its 75 years of service, highlight our commitment to fostering a fit, active, and healthy Bharat through mass participation. Such programs are essential in making fitness a people’s movement and fortifying the foundation of India’s sporting ecosystem,” he added.

India’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2030 and its ambition to host the Olympic Games 2036 are being shaped through meticulous planning and engagement across various sectors. International sports governance and Olympic-affiliated platforms have recently praised India’s strategy to connect major sporting events with enhancements in urban mobility, infrastructure, and long-term urban planning.
Last year, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, initiated Fit India Sundays on Cycle to advocate cycling as a fitness activity and tackle significant issues, including combating obesity and reducing pollution.
Rupinder Pal Singh was an integral part of India’s men’s hockey team that clinched bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and has also earned medals at the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and other international competitions.
Rohit Tokas secured bronze at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games and currently mentors young athletes through his Tokas Boxing Club.
Previous editions of this initiative have seen participation from personnel of the Indian Army, CRPF, ITBP, various PSUs, and organizations such as the GST Council and the Physical Education Foundation of India. Notable sportspersons and film celebrities have also endorsed the campaign as Fit India Icons.
