New Delhi, Aug 1 (NationPress) The defending champions NorthEast United FC are set to commence their title defence on Saturday, facing Malaysian Armed Forces FT (ATM FA) in a Group E showdown during Matchday 9 of the 134th Durand Cup at Shillong, known as the Scotland of the East.
In another exciting matchup, 1 Ladakh FC will make history as they participate in their first-ever national tournament, taking on Tribhuvan Army FC in a Group C battle in Jamshedpur.
All eyes will be on Shillong’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where NorthEast United FC, fresh from their thrilling victory over Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the 2024 finals, aims to kick off their campaign with strong intent.
Under the guidance of head coach Juan Pedro Benali, who recently extended his contract until 2027, the Highlanders arrive with confidence, continuity, and a target of back-to-back titles. Star striker Alaaeddine Ajaraie, who scored an impressive 23 goals in the 2024–25 ISL season, is expected to be a significant threat.
