New Delhi, March 1 (NationPress) Recent reports from Germany indicate that Joshua Kimmich, the German midfielder, might depart from Bayern Munich when his contract concludes this summer. In response, Bayern's Sporting Director Max Eberl expressed a desire to keep Kimmich at the club but emphasized that it would not be catastrophic if he chooses to leave.
Kimmich has been part of the Bavarian club since 2015, securing eight Bundesliga titles during his tenure. Known for his versatility as a midfield anchor and potential full-back, he has made 435 appearances and netted 43 goals over a decade. His contributions were instrumental in their Champions League success in the 2019/20 season.
Eberl remarked to Bild, "In general, no player is above the club! If a player makes a different choice, it’s their decision. FC Bayern will continue regardless. There have been notable players who left because of contract disputes, and life at the club goes on."
As per Bild, a deadline for Kimmich's decision has been set around the first leg of the UCL Round of 16 against Bayer Leverkusen. Should Kimmich express his intent to remain prior to this date, an agreement could potentially be reached.
Additionally, Sky Germany reports that both Arsenal and Liverpool are keen to acquire the 30-year-old midfielder this summer. Arsenal is in search of replacements as Jorginho and Thomas Partey are set to see their contracts expire.
Liverpool, meanwhile, aims to strengthen their midfield and may consider Kimmich as a potential right-back option if Trent Alexander-Arnold opts to leave.
Eberl stated, "There’s a lot of speculation. I don't comment on ongoing negotiations. It’s essential that Josh and I, as well as the club, maintain a respectful dialogue. Our interactions are on equal terms and very respectful."
