Abu Dhabi, Sep 22 (NationPress) Pakistani opener Sahibzada Farhan addressed his gunshot celebration following the match against India, emphasizing that it was an impulsive act and not premeditated. He also expressed that he is unconcerned about public reception of the moment.
After being set to bat first, Pakistan made a strong start, with openers Farhan and Fakhar Zaman hitting the ground running. Even though India claimed an early wicket with Hardik Pandya dismissing Zaman, Farhan delivered a remarkable performance, emerging as the leading run-scorer for his team.
Following his half-century, Farhan executed a gunshot celebration with his bat, which stirred some controversy. During a press briefing on Monday, before the upcoming match against Sri Lanka, the 29-year-old stated that he remains indifferent to others' opinions about his actions.
“That (celebration) was just a moment at that time. I don’t usually celebrate much after reaching 50. However, it suddenly occurred to me to celebrate today. I did that, and I don't care how people will interpret it,” Farhan mentioned to the media.
“And, as you know, playing aggressive cricket is essential no matter the opponent. We should maintain that intensity against every team, just as we did today,” he added.
Despite Farhan's impressive batting, his efforts were in vain as the Indian batsmen retaliated during their chase, with Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Tilak Varma guiding the side to a six-wicket victory.
While India gears up to face Bangladesh next, Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
Both teams will enter this matchup following defeats in their respective Super 4 games against India and Bangladesh.
