Dubai, Sep 24 (NationPress) India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doechate praised his players on Tuesday for maintaining their composure in response to the provocative actions and abusive remarks from the Pakistani players during their Asia Cup Super 4s match this past Sunday.
Following India's victory in their initial Asia Cup match, the Pakistani team resorted to provocative gestures while the Indian players showcased exceptional cricket skills, securing a win by six wickets.
Pakistani batsman Sahibzada Farhan infamously mimicked firing a gun with his bat upon reaching his half-century, while Haris Rauf made a contentious gesture depicting an airplane crashing, alluding to Pakistan's unfounded claims of downing Indian fighter jets during Operation Sindoor.
As the Indian team remained unfazed and responded through their performance, ten Doechate commended his players for their outstanding conduct.
"We are extremely proud of how our players conducted themselves under pressure. The level of stress placed on them due to the circumstances is considerable, and controlling one’s behavior can be quite challenging. I did observe some of Harris's actions, but that's not our concern," stated the Indian assistant coach.
"They met aggression with their bats on the field. Other teams might have issues with some of our actions, but we are thrilled with how our players have represented themselves throughout the tournament," Ryan ten Doechate added.
The Indian assistant coach also announced that the coaching staff is contemplating utilizing Sanju Samson in the No.5 batting position, despite the top-order batsman facing difficulties in scoring during the match against Pakistan.
With selectors naming Shubman Gill as vice-captain and opener alongside Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson has no choice but to accept the No.5 role, as Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma have solidified their positions at No.3 and No.4.
Ryan ten Doechate expressed confidence that Samson will adapt to this scenario and seize the opportunities presented to him.
"We believe Sanju is the ideal candidate for this role, and we have no doubt that he will discover how to excel in it moving forward," he concluded.
