New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) The significance of maintaining holistic fitness was celebrated in grand style during the 68th installment of Fit India Sundays on Cycle at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex. In addition to the usual 5km cycling ride, over 800 participants engaged in a variety of fitness zones specially designed for the occasion, just two days ahead of World Health Day.

Numerous activity zones offered a range of options including badminton, table tennis, cricket, tug of war, yoga, skipping challenges, and classic indoor games such as carrom, ludo, and snakes & ladders. A unique yoga consultation booth, backed by the Ministry of AYUSH through its Yoga 365 initiative, allowed participants to relax through guided sessions and advice. Additionally, a smart wall fitness challenge aimed at enhancing neural activity and darts stations attracted participants of all ages.

Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in partnership with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Indian Rope Skipping Federation, Yogasana Bharat, Raahgiri Foundation, MY Bikes, and MY Bharat. This cycling initiative is simultaneously conducted across all States and Union Territories, including SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India Centres (KICs).

“I came here just to cycle, but this feels like a full-fledged fitness festival. My kids are playing badminton and table tennis while I joined a yoga session. There is something for everyone,” shared Ritu Sharma, a local resident of Delhi. Another participant, Jasmeet Chandok, remarked, “The energy here is incredible. With music, games, and cycling, it feels like a carnival in honor of World Health Day.”

A notable highlight was the significant involvement from India's healthcare sector, with organizations such as the Indian Medical Association and Indian Red Cross Society participating as special partners. Supported by entities including ESIC Social Security, this event showcased a robust connection between healthcare and fitness, emphasizing that prevention and active living are interconnected. Doctors and nurses, often seen as frontline warriors of health, took the spotlight as advocates of preventive fitness, underscoring that wellness begins with daily practices.

The venue was alive with high-energy Zumba sessions, yoga practices, and rope skipping areas, as participants delved into a diverse assortment of recreational and fitness activities. The event was graced by several esteemed guests and fitness influencers, including former IPL cricketer Parvinder Awana, powerlifting expert Mukesh Gehlot, and Paralympian Pushpendra Singh, alongside notable medical professionals such as Dr. Shama Batra (President, East Delhi IMA), Dr. Ajay K. Gupta (President, Delhi IAP), Dr. Rajnesh Aaram (Joint Secretary, IMA HQ), Dr. Piyush Jain (Finance Secretary, IMA HQ), and Dr. Neelam Lekhi (President, DMA).

Officials from the Ministry of AYUSH were also present, emphasizing the government's commitment to preventive healthcare and holistic well-being.

Former Kings XI Punjab cricketer Parvinder Awana stated, “This shouldn't just be a Sunday event; it should be a daily habit.” Powerlifting champion Mukesh Gehlot, who was honored earlier in the day, expressed, “This is a new experience after many years, and I truly enjoyed it.” Paralympian & Asian Para Games Medallist Pushpendra Singh added, “Our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s initiative, Sundays on Cycle, is one of the best practices we can adopt to remain fit.”

Voices from the crowd echoed similar excitement. A young doctor from Delhi mentioned that cycling with colleagues felt “like a celebration beyond the hospital walls,” while a nursing student characterized the event as “a refreshing reminder that caring for others starts with caring for ourselves.” Families, students, and seniors participated, capturing moments, taking selfies, and embracing the vibrant, inclusive atmosphere.

Adding a social dimension to the festivities, a street play by the Raahgiri Foundation highlighted the significance of active lifestyles and safer public spaces, receiving applause from the audience. Launched in December 2024 by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has evolved into a powerful public movement, with over 28 lakh citizens participating across more than 2.63 lakh locations nationwide.
