New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) India celebrated yet another dynamic edition of the ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’, featuring over 300 events taking place at the same time across the nation. The national capital's event was inaugurated by Sujata Chaturvedi, secretary of Sports, who energized the audience and emphasized the growing national commitment towards fitness.
From communities and athletes to police departments and local residents, individuals across the country pedalled with determination, promoting fitness, enjoyment, and environmental consciousness under the initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The New Moti Bagh Club hosted an enthusiastic rally with around 350 residents from various Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) cycling in harmony. This Sunday event, a partnership between local RWAs and Fit India, aimed at combating obesity and fostering healthier lifestyles among urban dwellers.
Sujata Chaturvedi actively participated in the event, motivating the spirited crowd. She highlighted the increasing momentum of the Fit India movement over time.
She stated, “Fit India is a widely embraced national initiative. It has witnessed a variety of activities and is gaining traction across all demographics. At this moment, hundreds of thousands of individuals have already engaged in Sundays on Cycle across the nation.
“Today, approximately 300 events are occurring. Additionally, we hosted the Fit India carnival at JLN Stadium, which was mentioned in the Honourable Prime Minister's Mann ki Baat. All these initiatives are fostering a conducive environment for fitness and wellness in India,” she added.
The event was graced by notable guests including Nitesh Siwach, a Greco-Roman wrestler who recently secured a bronze medal in the 97 kg category at the 2025 Asian Wrestling Championships in Amman, Jordan, and Rohtash Choudhary, widely recognized as the 'Push-Up Man of India', who holds numerous Guinness World Records, including performing 645 push-ups in one hour while carrying a 60 lb pack with one leg elevated.
Nitesh Siwach commended the growing health awareness among individuals.
“Fitness is a crucial aspect of our existence. Mental and physical fitness is our true wealth. It’s wonderful to witness initiatives like these that encourage people to cycle and become more health-conscious. I’m pleased Fit India is promoting this and hope it continues to expand,” he told SAI Media.
At SAI RC Imphal, esteemed Indian weightlifter and Padma Shri awardee Kunjarani Devi inaugurated the cycling rally, supporting the fitness initiative. Her presence motivated hundreds to commit to healthier lifestyles and cleaner cities.
In Tamil Nadu, the SAI Training Centre in Salem was inaugurated by Suresh Kumar S., a track and field athlete and multiple medallist at the World Police Athletic Championships, drawing large crowds and highlighting the region's increasing enthusiasm for fitness and community cycling.
