New Delhi, Feb 28 (NationPress) Renowned Olympians Jinson Johnson and Anish Bhanwala are set to be the star attractions at the 63rd Fit India Sundays on Cycle event happening on March 1. Johnson, who represented India at the 2016 Olympics and holds the national record in the 1500m with an impressive time of 3:35.24, will participate in this cycling event at the scenic RK Beach in Visakhapatnam.

He achieved remarkable success at the 2018 Asian Games, securing a gold in the 1500m and a silver in the 800m. Furthermore, he added a silver medal in the 1500m at the 2022 Asian Games, affirming his status as one of India's leading middle-distance athletes.

Joining him is fellow Olympian Anish Bhanwala, who clinched a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in 25m rapid fire pistol. He will participate alongside talented fencer Taniksha Khatri at the cycling event in New Delhi. This gathering is set to occur at the historic Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Swimming Pool Complex, in partnership with the Fire and Emergency Departments of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Bhanwala also earned a silver in the Mixed Team event at the 2022 Cairo ISSF World Championships and another silver at the 2025 Cairo Championships. Additionally, he won a bronze medal in the Team event at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. Khatri marked a notable achievement by reaching the quarterfinals at the 2022 Asian Games, representing India's best performance in the Épée category. They will be accompanied by Nancy, a Fit India ambassador, and Akanksha Tagotra, a celebrated Zumba instructor and wellness advocate.

Initiated in December 2024 by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has evolved into a major public initiative, engaging over 25 million participants across more than 250,000 locations nationwide. This initiative is part of the broader Fit India Movement, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 29, 2019, aiming to cultivate fitness as an everyday practice and inspire a shift towards active living.

The Fit India Sundays on Cycle event takes place weekly, coordinated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India and various partners, including the Cycling Federation of India, Mallakhamb Association, Kudo Association, NaMo Cycling Clubs, Indian Rope Skipping Federation, My Bharat, and Yogasana Bharat.

This cycling initiative occurs simultaneously across all States and Union Territories, including SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India Centres (KICs).

Supplementary activities such as yoga sessions by Yogasana Bharat, rope skipping exhibitions, Kudo martial arts showcases, and cultural performances will elevate the morning into a vibrant fitness festival rather than just a cycling rally. With its twin themes of #FightObesity and #PollutionKaSolution, Fit India Sundays on Cycle aspires to motivate citizens to embrace cycling as a sustainable, accessible, and community-focused method of maintaining an active lifestyle.
