Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The 92nd edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle was held on Sunday, 27 September 2026, at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, ITO, New Delhi, as part of the Hindi Pakhwada 2026 celebrations. Organised in collaboration with Sulabh International, the event drew over 1,000 participants who cycled, ran, and engaged in a range of fitness activities through the morning.
Theme and Purpose
The event carried the theme 'Pedal for Fitness, Ride for a Cleaner India', underscoring the importance of cycling, physical wellness, and cleanliness in building a healthier society. The partnership with Sulabh International reinforced the public health and sanitation message, while the Hindi Pakhwada backdrop gave the gathering a distinct cultural character.
Distinguished Guests and Proceedings
The event was graced by Sabita Mahato, endurance athlete, ultra-runner, cyclist and mountaineer; Kiran Chillar, fitness model, Indian Flag Runner, and Mrs. India 2019; and Dr. Prem Prakash Meena, Fit India Ambassador. Activities commenced as early as 5:30 am, beginning with the felicitation of guests and a Nasha Mukti (anti-substance) pledge before the cycling rally was formally flagged off.
Activities on the Day
Participants took part in yoga, zumba, and rope skipping, followed by a 5 km run and cycling ride around the stadium. A dedicated game zone featured board games such as carrom and chess, alongside badminton, tug of war, and an obstacle race, keeping enthusiasm high through the morning.
What the Speakers Said
Dr. Prem Prakash Meena said, 'Our Prime Minister has turned 76 years old, but we consider him young. He has made an appeal to the youth on how we can make the entire country fit and develop a sporting culture to bring a new fitness revolution across the country. The impact is visible today through the Sundays on Cycle campaign, which has reached its 92nd edition. Looking at the enthusiasm of the youth, we can see how a new fitness movement is taking place across the country.'
Sabita Mahato urged participants to make fitness a daily habit: 'Not just on Sunday, but every day, if we give half an hour to our fitness, then doing a work for 21 days makes it a habit. So, building a good habit is very important in our regular life.'
Significance of the Campaign
Having now reached its 92nd consecutive Sunday edition, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative reflects a sustained national push toward fitness culture. This edition's convergence with Hindi Pakhwada broadened its reach beyond sport, connecting language, culture, and wellness under a single civic event. The next edition is expected to continue the series into its 93rd week.
