From Snow-Capped Mountains to Aspirations: J&K's Ummer Ahmad Aims for Glory at Kho Kho World Cup

Srinagar, Dec 30 (NationPress) Emerging from the snow-covered terrains of Jammu and Kashmir, Ummer Ahmad is pursuing his ambition — he aspires to be part of the Indian men's squad at the imminent Kho Kho World Cup in New Delhi next month and clinch a gold medal for his nation.
Ummer Ahmad staunchly believes in the principle, 'Practice makes perfect'. A resident of Budgam, Ummer has been engaged in Kho Kho since he was in the sixth grade and is currently striving for a spot on the Indian men’s roster for the forthcoming Kho Kho World Cup. He adheres to his training regimen rigorously, overcoming challenges such as harsh weather conditions.
"I am incredibly thrilled about the World Cup. It represents a tremendous opportunity for all of us, and we aim to secure gold for our country. It’s a moment of pride for us that the Kho Kho World Cup is being held in India, offering the sport international visibility. More than 20 countries will be participating in this event, which is truly an honor," he remarked.
Coming from a modest background, like many others, financial stability poses a significant hurdle for the J&K player; nevertheless, he is diligently working towards his dream. "My father and I work as laborers. Despite the difficulties, my ultimate goal is to represent the country in the World Cup, and that motivates me," he shared.
Ummer expresses his gratitude to the Kho Kho Association of Jammu & Kashmir and the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) for assisting players from the state in pursuing their aspirations professionally.
"I am incredibly grateful to the Kho Kho Association of Jammu & Kashmir and the Kho Kho Federation of India for their support and for providing us with a platform to play the sport at a professional level. We have received extensive guidance regarding our fitness routines, nutrition, and diet," he said.
Ummer has been training under coach Bilal Ahmed Bhagat and is currently part of the training camp at JLN Stadium in New Delhi. He praised the initiative, noting that it provides players with the opportunity to refine their skills. "The coaches at the camp are excellent. Additionally, there are numerous players from various states, and we learn a lot from each other, including new skills and cultural practices," he concluded.
India is gearing up to host the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup from January 13 to 19 in New Delhi.
