Madrid, Nov 17 (NationPress) England international midfielder Conor Gallagher has dismissed any thoughts of a return to the Premier League in January, while acknowledging that he can enhance his performance at Atletico Madrid.
Gallagher made the switch to Atletico during the summer of 2024, and even though he has been a key player in Diego Simeone's strategy, many of his appearances this season have come from the bench, according to reports from Xinhua.
This situation has sparked rumors about a possible return to England, as Gallagher seeks regular playing time to secure a spot on England's squad for the upcoming World Cup next summer.
"I’m very happy here," Gallagher stated in an interview with the Spanish sports newspaper, Diario AS, when discussing his future.
"My ambition is to win titles with Atletico, and I aspire to play a more significant role," he emphasized. "I will continue to work hard to earn more minutes and contribute to the team."
He expressed that he is "not satisfied" with his current playing time, admitting that no player would relish such a scenario. "I’ll keep striving to assist the team whenever I get the opportunity, and I hope to earn more starts," Gallagher remarked.
He noted that he has yet to showcase his full potential since joining the Spanish club, highlighting that limited playing time makes it challenging to display his skills. "The most crucial aspect is to do what benefits the coach and the team," he concluded.
Gallagher, who is 25 years old and hails from Epsom in Surrey, England, joined Chelsea in 2018 after progressing through grassroots teams like Bookham Colts, Leatherhead Predators, and Epsom Eagles.
Shortly after joining Chelsea, he was loaned out to Charlton Athletic (2019–2020), followed by stints at Swansea City (2020), West Bromwich Albion (2020-21), and Crystal Palace from 2021 to 2022. In 2024, he transferred to Atletico Madrid.
