London, Nov 11 (NationPress) Trevoh Chalobah is anticipated to join the England squad as a substitute for the injured Marc Guehi, a defender for Crystal Palace.
The 26-year-old centre-back from Chelsea is likely to connect with the national team prior to England’s concluding World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Serbia, although formal confirmation is still pending. The Three Lions have already clinched their place in next summer’s World Cup.
Chalobah received his first call-up for England from manager Thomas Tuchel in May, making his debut against Senegal. Despite his impressive performance, he was not selected for the September qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, nor the October internationals—a decision Tuchel referred to as “unfortunate” at the time.
Tuchel has significantly influenced Chalobah’s career, granting him his Chelsea debut in 2021. This season, the defender has been a consistent presence, missing just four matches across all competitions as Chelsea sits third in the Premier League, progresses to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, and competes vigorously in the Champions League.
On the other hand, Guehi sustained a foot injury during Crystal Palace’s Conference League win over AZ Alkmaar last week.
Before Palace’s Premier League match against Brighton, manager Oliver Glasner provided an update on Guehi’s status, revealing that he was experiencing a “heavy bone bruise.” The injury occurred late in the game, when Guehi received a booking for a foul.
“Overnight he couldn't sleep due to the pain, and the following day we evaluated him, discovering it was a heavy bone bruise,” Glasner told Sky Sports. “He was on crutches for the last two days and couldn’t even put weight on his foot. Thankfully, nothing is broken, but currently, he can't walk. It appears he will miss England’s matches, but hopefully in 10-14 days, he can return to training and be available again.”
Additionally, further modifications to the England squad are anticipated, with Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe confirming that winger Anthony Gordon (hip) and goalkeeper Nick Pope (concussion) will also withdraw.
