New Delhi, June 13 (NationPress) Just a week prior to India's five-match Test series against England in Leeds, head coach Gautam Gambhir has returned home due to a family emergency. Gambhir was with the Indian team at Beckenham, preparing for their intra-squad practice match set to commence on Friday.
"Yes, it was revealed yesterday that Gambhir would be heading back due to a significant family matter concerning his mother. Currently, it is believed that Gambhir is reunited with his family in New Delhi.
“Given the current circumstances, it remains uncertain when he will rejoin the Indian team before the Test series begins,” said sources familiar with the situation to IANS on Friday.
In Gambhir’s absence, along with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, bowling coach Morne Morkel, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, and fielding coach T Dilip will assist the Indian team in their preparations for the upcoming Test series against Ben Stokes-led England, which kicks off at Headingley.
