Hubli, Feb 27 (NationPress) Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly praised Auqib Nabi, a fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, for his stellar performance in the Ranji Trophy. Ganguly emphasized that the right-arm pacer is on the verge of representing the national team and may kick off his international career in England.

He also commended the incredible journey and tenacity of Jammu and Kashmir in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, where they are putting forth a commendable effort against the eight-time champions, Karnataka, in their first-ever final.

"J&K has demonstrated what dedication and intent can achieve. They have made their region immensely proud. Tough circumstances forge strong individuals. Auqib Nabi is indeed on his path to national recognition… and England could be the starting point this summer," Ganguly expressed on X, tagging BCCI and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

In July, India is set to play five T20Is and three ODIs in England, a critical tour in preparation for the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup to be held in South Africa. Ganguly believes Auqib should be included in the squad for this tour.

Auqib has showcased exceptional skill with the ball during the Ranji Trophy Final at Hubli Cricket Ground, securing his seventh five-wicket haul of the season, which enabled Jammu and Kashmir to dismiss Karnataka for 293, despite Mayank’s formidable 160 off 266 balls. This performance granted J&K a crucial first-innings lead of 291 runs, potentially influencing the match's outcome.

Former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik also praised Auqib for his outstanding display.

Karthik admired Auqib's determination, noting that he has participated in all matches of the tournament, adapting to various conditions, and has taken 60 wickets to date.

"Watching this Ranji Trophy campaign closely, I can unequivocally state that for all aspiring young cricketers wanting to represent the nation, follow the Auqib Nabi approach. It’s been a long time since a pacer has accomplished what he has," he wrote on X.

Karthik is confident that Auqib's dedication and performance in domestic cricket will pave his way to the national team, calling him a champion and wishing him success for the future.

"From start to finish, he has dominated, nearly single-handedly clinching the domestic title that holds immense weight for national selection," he noted.

"His fitness throughout the campaign, ability to bowl long spells, and adaptability to various surfaces and weather conditions demonstrate his unwavering belief in his capability to STRIKE for his team whenever required.
