Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Sep 14 (NationPress) Former Indian cricket captain and the previous BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly, officially submitted his nomination for the position of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President at the historic Eden Gardens on Sunday. This announcement follows his nomination to represent CAB in the upcoming BCCI elections and the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is scheduled to take place at the board’s headquarters in Mumbai on September 28.
With no other candidates having filed nominations for the prestigious role, Ganguly is poised to be elected unopposed during the elections on September 22. Should this occur, he will replace his brother, Snehasish Ganguly, who has been in the role for nearly three years.
“I sincerely appreciate everyone’s support. At CAB, we have no opposition; we are all part of this Association. We will collaborate to advance CAB and Bengal cricket. Significant events are on the horizon at Eden Gardens, including India’s Test match against South Africa, the T20 World Cup, and the Bengal Pro T20 League. I am committed to doing my utmost,” Ganguly expressed in a post shared on CAB’s Instagram account.
Previously, Ganguly held the CAB presidency from 2015 to 2019 but stepped down after being elected as BCCI President, a position he maintained until 2022, when he was succeeded by former Indian fast bowler Roger Binny.
In addition to Ganguly, other candidates including Nitish Ranjan Dutta, Bablu Koley, Madan Mohan Ghosh, and Sanjay Das have also filed nominations for various positions such as Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer.
“Bablu Koley brings valuable experience to the table. It’s essential to have someone with his expertise. Nitish Ranjan Dutta, Madan Mohan Ghosh, and Sanjay Das are also seasoned professionals who have dedicated years to this field. Their collective experience will greatly benefit Bengal cricket,” Ganguly added.
It remains to be seen if Ganguly will continue his role as the head of cricket at JSW Sports, which manages the Delhi Capitals women’s team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and the Pretoria Capitals for the upcoming SA20 season four, after potentially being re-elected as CAB President.
