New Delhi, Sep 11 (NationPress) Iconic cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has decisively dismissed the speculation surrounding his potential candidacy for the role of BCCI president. A statement released by his management company on Thursday confirmed that there is no basis for these rumors.
“We have noted the circulation of various reports and rumors regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered or nominated for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We would like to categorically clarify that no such development has occurred. We kindly request all parties to avoid giving weight to these unfounded speculations,” the statement from SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd elaborated.
As anticipation builds ahead of the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September 28, during which crucial elections will take place for both the board’s president and IPL chairman, Tendulkar has made it clear he is not involved in these discussions.
The president’s position has remained vacant since Roger Binny resigned earlier this month upon reaching the age of 70. Meanwhile, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal may face a mandatory cooling-off period after six consecutive years in administration.
Despite these transitions, it is likely that most current office-bearers will continue their roles. Current secretary Devajit Saikia, who took over from Jay Shah after Shah was appointed as ICC chairman, is expected to remain. Joint secretary Rohan Gauns Desai and treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia are also predicted to retain their positions.
Binny, who became BCCI president in October 2022, was expected to serve until the AGM. His unexpected resignation has opened the floor for speculation regarding possible successors, igniting rumors about several prominent figures, including Tendulkar. However, the cricketing legend's management team has now issued a definitive denial, effectively quelling the buzz and confirming that he is not in contention for the prestigious role.
