New Delhi, June 2 (NationPress) Rajeev Shukla, the current vice-president of the BCCI, is poised to take on the position of interim president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as the present leader, Roger Binny, approaches the obligatory retirement age, according to sources.
As initially reported by IANS on May 31, Shukla is the leading candidate for the interim role as Binny nears his 70th birthday on July 19. The BCCI's constitution stipulates that any official must step down upon reaching 70 years of age, making Binny ineligible to continue after this date.
A BCCI source told IANS, “Rajeev will take the reins and manage operations for a brief period. As the senior vice-president, he will step into this role in line with the guidelines.”
If confirmed, Shukla will fulfill the presidential duties for a three-month interim span until a new leader is elected.
Shukla has held the position of BCCI vice-president since 2020. Before that, he played significant roles in Indian cricket governance, including serving as Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) until 2017 and as Chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) until 2018.
Roger Binny, a prominent figure in India’s legendary 1983 World Cup-winning team, was appointed as the 36th President of the BCCI in 2022.
