Mumbai, Sep 21 (NationPress) BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla announced a newly formed panel of candidates for the Board’s key positions on Sunday, confirming that former cricketer Mithun Manhas has submitted his nomination for the presidency at the headquarters here.
Alongside Manhas, former Test cricketer Raghuram Bhatt has also filed for the treasurer position. Other nominees include Prabhtej Bhatia (joint secretary), Arun Singh Dhumal (IPL Governing Council chairman), and Jaydev Shah (apex council member).
"The candidate panel is set, featuring Mithun Manhas as president. I will serve as vice president, with Devajit Saikia as secretary, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as joint secretary, and Raghuram Bhatt as treasurer. Nominations have also been submitted for the Apex Body Governing Council. Thus, a new body is being established for the next term. Best wishes to all," Shukla stated to reporters outside the BCCI headquarters.
When inquired about the IPL chairmanship, Shukla confirmed that Arun Dhumal would retain his position.
At 45, Manhas played domestic cricket for Delhi before transitioning to Jammu and Kashmir, where he has also taken on coaching responsibilities. If elected, he would become only the third former cricketer to hold the presidency, following in the footsteps of Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny. A formal declaration regarding the new panel is expected after the Board’s Annual General Meeting scheduled for September 28.
Nominated by the JKCA, Manhas emerged as the leading candidate for the BCCI president’s position after influential figures in Indian cricket convened informally on Saturday.
The BCCI president's position became vacant after Roger Binny resigned in August 2025. While Shukla managed interim responsibilities, the BCCI sought nominations to form a new committee in the interim.
The election process commenced with the nomination filing date on September 21, followed by candidate scrutiny and final list publication on September 23. Voting, if necessary, will take place during the Annual General Meeting on September 28.
