Mumbai, March 7 (NationPress) With Jay Shah assuming the role of Chair at the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed vice-president Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar as its delegates to the Board of Directors of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
With Jay Shah, who previously held the position of President of the ACC, transitioning to the ICC, his seat on the ACC Board became available. In this context, Rajeev Shukla, representing Uttar Pradesh in the BCCI, will serve as an Executive Board Member, while Ashish Shelar, a former president of the Mumbai Cricket Association and the current Minister of Information Technology and Cultural Affairs in the Maharashtra government, will join as the Ex-Officio Board Member of the ACC Board.
"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wishes to share updates regarding its representation on the Board of Directors of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC)," the BCCI stated in a release on Friday.
"Rajeev Shukla will serve as the BCCI representative as an Executive Board Member on the ACC Board, while Ashish Shelar will take on the role of BCCI representative as the Ex-Officio Board Member," the BCCI announcement confirmed.
"On behalf of the BCCI Office Bearers and Apex Council, we extend our best wishes for a fruitful tenure as the ACC aims to enhance, develop, and fortify cricket in Asia," said BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia.
Jay Shah became the Chair of the ICC on December 1, being elected unopposed to succeed Greg Barclay, who had been in charge since November 2020. Shah is the youngest individual to achieve this distinguished position and is the fifth Indian to take on the role of ICC Chairman after Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar.
Shah was first appointed as President of the Asian Cricket Council in January 2021 and was re-elected in January 2024, with Sri Lanka proposing his name instead of nominating a representative of their own.
