Devajit Saikia Takes on Role of Acting Secretary at BCCI, Reports Indicate

Mumbai, Dec 7 (NationPress) Devajit Saikia from Assam, currently the joint-secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been named the acting secretary to fulfill the responsibilities until the position left vacant by Jay Shah, who has now taken on the role of Chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC), is permanently filled.

BCCI president Roger Binny appointed Saikia as acting secretary, as reported by sources to IANS.

According to sources, Binny informed Saikia via email on Saturday that the vacancy arose due to Shah's election as ICC Chairperson, which has left the position of Hon. Secretary unoccupied.

Saikia's appointment as acting secretary is in line with Rule 7 (1) (d) of the BCCI Rules and Regulations.

As stated in Rule 7 (1) (d), "The President shall, in the event of a vacancy or indisposition of an office-bearer, delegate the function to another office-bearer until the vacancy is duly filled up or the indisposition ceases."

Thus, Binny has delegated the secretary's responsibilities to Saikia until the position is filled following the BCCI's established procedures.

While appointing Saikia as acting secretary, Binny expressed his best wishes and conveyed confidence that Saikia would execute his duties to the best of his ability and with aplomb.

In a related note, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has congratulated Devajit Saikia, BCCI Joint Secretary, on taking charge as a Board Director at the ICC representing the BCCI.

"This significant accomplishment reflects his steadfast dedication to cricket and his relentless efforts to advance the sport on a global scale. His knowledge and foresight will surely take the sport to new heights.

The ACA's President, Taranga Gogoi, Secretary Tridib Konwar, along with all members of the Apex Council, are celebrating this extraordinary achievement and wish him great success in his new role," the ACA stated in a social media post.
