Binny Offers Congratulations to Newly Elected BCCI Officials Saikia and Bhatia

New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia have been elected unopposed as the new secretary and treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The pair was elected to their respective positions during the Special General Meeting (SGM) held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Sunday, and they will assume their duties immediately.

Saikia previously served as the BCCI joint secretary since 2022, stepping up to the position of secretary after Jay Shah vacated the role to become ICC Chairman on December 1, 2024. On the other hand, Bhatia will take over as treasurer following Ashish Shelar's resignation after being appointed as a minister in the Maharashtra cabinet.

“I extend my sincere congratulations to Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia on their appointments as Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer, respectively. They are continuing the remarkable legacy of Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar, who have set high standards in their positions,” said BCCI president Roger Binny in a statement on Monday.

“I am confident that their extensive administrative skills and profound knowledge of financial operations will lead us to new achievements in governance and financial oversight. I would also like to thank our State Associations for their unanimous support and trust in our collective vision for Indian Cricket,” Binny added.

Saikia has played four first-class matches for Assam as a wicketkeeper-batter and currently serves as the state’s advocate general. He previously held the position of secretary for the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), where he was praised for promoting cricket in the state and preparing the Barsapara stadium for international and IPL matches.

Meanwhile, Bhatia comes from the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh (CSCS) and has served as its president, along with a previous term on the BCCI Apex Council until 2022. “The appointments of Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia signify an exciting new chapter for the BCCI's administration,” he remarked.

“They are stepping into the esteemed roles previously held by Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar, who excelled in their duties. With their experience in cricket administration and professional expertise, Saikia and Bhatia are exemplary choices, and I eagerly anticipate collaborating with them,” added Rajeev Shukla, the BCCI vice president.

“The strong support from our State Associations reinforces our collective commitment to elevate the game. We will persist in enhancing cricket infrastructure nationwide and creating more opportunities for everyone to engage in our beloved sport,” Shukla concluded.
