Mumbai, March 1 (NationPress) Rohan Gauns Dessai, the secretary of the Goa Cricket Association (GCA), has been elected unanimously as the new joint secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The BCCI held a Special General Meeting (SGM) at its headquarters in Mumbai on Saturday to elect the new joint secretary. A notification regarding this meeting was sent to state associations on February 6.

Dessai was the only candidate to submit his nomination for the joint secretary role and was officially elected in the presence of other office bearers, including president Roger Binny and vice-president Rajiv Shukla, along with representatives from various state associations.

This position became available following the promotion of Devajit Saikia from Assam to the new secretary of the governing body in Mumbai earlier this year, coinciding with Jay Shah's appointment as the ICC Chair. Alongside Saikia, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia from Chhattisgarh was elected as the new BCCI treasurer after his predecessor Ashish Shelar took on a ministerial role in the Maharashtra state cabinet.

“The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) is proud to announce that Rohan Gauns Dessai has been appointed as the Joint Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a distinguished position that strengthens Goa’s role in Indian cricket administration.

“This appointment is a significant milestone, enhancing the state’s influence at the national level and reflecting its rising status in the sport. Congratulations to him on this well-deserved recognition, and best wishes for a fruitful tenure!” the GCA stated on its official website and Instagram.

Dessai has been serving as GCA’s secretary since 2022 and also acted as the manager for the Indian men’s team during last year’s four-match T20I series in South Africa, which ended with a 3-1 victory.

“Sending greetings to Rohan Gauns Dessai on his new role as the Joint Secretary of BCCI! Wishing you a successful and progressive tenure for Indian cricket!” expressed Jagan Mohan Rao Arishnapally, president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, on his X account.
