Devajit Saikia Takes Over as BCCI Secretary; Prabhtej Bhatia Appointed Treasurer During SGM

Mumbai, Jan 12 (NationPress) Former Assam cricketer Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia have been elected unopposed to serve as the new BCCI secretary and treasurer, respectively, during a Special General Meeting convened here on Sunday.

Saikia and Bhatia were the sole candidates listed in the final lineup of contenders released by Achal Kumar Jyoti, the BCCI electoral officer, who has previously held the position of Chief Election Commissioner of India.

“I extend my congratulations to Shri @lonsaikia dangoriya on being appointed as the Secretary and Shri @prabhtejb as the Treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with the Apex Council Members of the Assam Cricket Association at BCCI's office in Mumbai today. I wish you both immense success and fulfillment in your new roles! May your leadership and expertise elevate Indian cricket to unprecedented heights!” remarked Taranga Gogoi, president of the Assam Cricket Association, on X.

Saikia, who has played four first-class matches for Assam as a wicketkeeper-batter, was serving as the acting secretary of the BCCI after Jay Shah assumed the role of ICC Chairman on December 1. He has previously held the position of BCCI's joint secretary, which will be filled through a separate election process.

Meanwhile, Bhatia has taken over the treasurer’s responsibilities following the departure of his predecessor, Ashish Shelar, who resigned from the post after being appointed as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra state government.

Bhatia is affiliated with the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh (CSCS) and has previously served as its president, in addition to his earlier term on the BCCI Apex Council.
