New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) Mohsin Naqvi, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has been named the new President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Naqvi was elected during an online meeting on Thursday and will take on his new role immediately.
“I am truly honored to take on the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council. Asia is the heart of international cricket, and I am dedicated to collaborating with all member boards to enhance the game’s growth and global impact,” stated Naqvi.
“Together, we will create new opportunities, promote greater cooperation, and elevate Asian cricket to new heights. I also wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing ACC President for his leadership and invaluable contributions during his time in office,” Naqvi added.
Since taking the helm of the PCB in February 2024, Naqvi will hold the ACC presidency for a duration of two years, succeeding Shammi Silva, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President. “It has been an honor to serve as President of the Asian Cricket Council. The unwavering dedication of our member boards working together has been crucial in enhancing the ACC’s reputation throughout the region,” Silva remarked.
“I am thankful to my predecessor, Mr. Jay Shah, Chairman of the ICC, whose leadership enabled the ACC to achieve remarkable milestones — such as securing the highest-ever value for the ACC Asia Cup commercial rights, establishing a new structure for pathway events, and facilitating the ongoing development of cricket in Asia,” Silva continued.
“As I step down, I am confident that under Mr. Naqvi’s capable leadership, the ACC will continue its impressive journey and prosper,” Silva, who has been re-elected as SLC President, expressed.
The ACC also stated that Naqvi, who serves as the Interior Minister in the Pakistan government, brings a visionary perspective centered on unity, innovation, and strategic advancement, solidifying Asia’s role as the hub of world cricket as the new ACC President.
“Under his guidance, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) anticipates a vibrant and cooperative future, with a strengthened commitment to development initiatives, youth involvement, and enhancing the global visibility of Asian cricket,” it concluded.
