New Delhi, Oct 1 (NationPress) The dispute regarding the Asia Cup 2025 final trophy intensified when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi dismissed rumors claiming he had issued an apology to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He accused the Indian media of disseminating “fabricated propaganda”.
“The Indian media thrives on deception rather than facts. I want to state unequivocally: I have not done anything wrong, nor have I ever apologized to the BCCI, and I will not do so in the future,” Naqvi expressed in a post on X. “This fabricated nonsense is merely cheap propaganda aimed at misleading their own populace. Unfortunately, India continues to intertwine politics with cricket, undermining the essence of the game.”
Naqvi asserted that he was prepared to conduct the trophy presentation on the night of the final in Dubai. “As ACC President, I was ready to present the trophy that very night, and I am still willing to do so. If they genuinely want it, they are invited to visit the ACC office and collect it from me,” he stated.
The controversy erupted on September 28 after India triumphed over Pakistan, securing a record-extending ninth Asia Cup title. The Indian team declined to accept the trophy and medals from Naqvi, citing strained geopolitical relations, and requested that the presentation be handled by the vice-chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board. However, Naqvi denied this request.
When the presentation ceremony eventually commenced after a delay, Indian players Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, and Tilak Varma received their individual accolades from other dignitaries on stage. Upon Naqvi's arrival on the dais, the Indian team made it clear they would not accept the trophy from him. Shortly thereafter, the trophy was quietly removed from the venue, leaving the champions without their reward.
Subsequent reports alleged that Naqvi requested Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav to personally travel to Dubai to retrieve the trophy from the ACC office.
