Mumbai, Sep 30 (NationPress) Mohsin Naqvi has found himself amidst controversy after he walked away with the Asia Cup trophy, preventing it from being awarded to the victorious team, India. He has been urged to choose between his roles as Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) or Interior Minister. Critics argue that he is struggling to manage both positions effectively.

In a recent report, the outspoken all-rounder Shahid Afridi has called for Naqvi to resign from one of his roles following the Asia Cup hiccup. Adding to the complexity, Naqvi is also serving as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), a position he assumed after Jay Shah transitioned to the ICC.

Despite Pakistan's runner-up finish in the Asia Cup, their defeats against India have prompted criticism regarding the team's performance and the PCB's vision. Reports indicate that Naqvi is now under significant scrutiny over his management of the board.

In response to inquiries, Afridi stated, “My suggestion to Naqvi Saheb is that while both roles are vital, they require dedicated attention.” He emphasized that PCB and the interior ministry are distinctly different roles that should not be mixed.

Afridi believes a decision should be made swiftly, stressing the need for focused leadership in Pakistan cricket. “This is a crucial moment for our cricket, and prompt action is essential,” he stated.

He also expressed concerns about Naqvi's reliance on unreliable advisers, suggesting that Naqvi needs to surround himself with knowledgeable experts in the sport.

Despite Afridi's clear stance on the issue, reports indicate that his advice has largely gone unheeded. Sources mention that Afridi has even reached out to the military's top brass, recommending they counsel Naqvi to prioritize one role over the other.
