New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) Renowned former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar and Cheteshwar Pujara have lauded emerging talents Ayush Mhatre and Priyansh Arya for their audacious batting techniques and their ability to focus on the present rather than the past.

Priyansh Arya kicked off the chase with a remarkable performance, establishing the momentum for Punjab Kings as they aimed for 210 against Chennai Super Kings. Coming in as a substitute, Arya immediately showcased his aggressive intent, targeting Khaleel Ahmed with a fierce straight drive for four, followed by a colossal six over midwicket. Despite Khaleel'sPrabhsimran Singh, he conceded 14 runs in the opening over.

The second over continued the assault, with Arya smashing Matt Henry for 4, 6, and another 4, amassing 25 runs in just six balls. When PBKS reached their fifty in an astonishing 3.2 overs, Arya had already scored 27 off eight deliveries, consistently finding the ropes. This bold, contemporary T20 approach exhibited Arya's strategy of going all out in the power play to establish dominance. His quickfire 39 off 11 balls, with a strike rate of 355, may not have clinched the match, but it epitomized the role of a modern aggressive opener: inflict maximum damage early and lay a solid foundation.

“Priyansh Arya has an exceptional ability to read the length early. On that pitch, he efficiently capitalized on any short deliveries, often sending them for six. Against bowlers like Matt Henry and Khaleel Ahmed, he also handled fuller deliveries well, leaving little room for error for bowlers. He's adept on both leg and off sides, making him a challenging batsman to bowl to,” Cheteshwar Pujara shared with ‘JioStar’.

Reflecting on CSK's bowling woes, Sunil Gavaskar remarked, “Based on our observations, CSK’s primary challenge for the remainder of the tournament will be their bowling. They may need to consistently target scores around 225–230 to offer their bowlers a fighting chance. Most teams now possess significant batting depth, as demonstrated by Punjab Kings where Marcus Stoinis entered at No. 7 and struck the ball cleanly with classic cricket strokes. With numerous teams boasting deep batting orders, Chennai must focus on improving their bowling.”

For CSK, Mhatre laid the groundwork with a spectacular batting display, scoring 73 runs off 43 balls. Discussing Mhatre's ideal batting position and the mindset of these fearless youngsters, Gavaskar stated, “I think the number 3 position suits Ayush Mhatre well. Although he has batted lower in the order during the Under-19 setup, the number 3 spot could be advantageous for him. He was dismissed on his first ball in the last game but showed no signs of being affected by it. That’s the essence of the 'Gen Next' mentality; they remain focused on the present without being bogged down by past performances. It’s a remarkable attitude.”
