Vadodara, Feb 13 (NationPress) The much-anticipated third season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 is here, and Gujarat Giants are primed for their home opener against the reigning champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), at the newly inaugurated Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) Stadium in Vadodara this Friday.
In a pre-match discussion, both head coach Michael Klinger and captain Ashleigh Gardner expressed their enthusiasm about the team's readiness for the upcoming season and the thrill of competing at home for the very first time.
"Our initial three matches will be in front of a Gujarat audience. We hope to see not just Vadodara fans but supporters from the entire region come out, donning orange, to cheer for us. Last season, we faced RCB in Bangalore and Delhi Capitals in Delhi, where they enjoyed substantial crowds. It would be fantastic if we could replicate that atmosphere here," Klinger remarked.
Gardner, leading the team for the first time, added, "Playing in front of our home supporters is exhilarating. I believe we’ve established a solid connection with our fans, and we aim to kick off the season as we envision – particularly here at home, before our loyal supporters."
During their home stint, the Gujarat Giants will also compete against UP Warriorz on February 16 and Mumbai Indians on February 18. Klinger shared his thoughts on the conditions at BCA Stadium, stating, "The venue looks amazing, and based on reports, the wicket is excellent — a true batting pitch that should yield plenty of runs, ideally for our team, making it an exhilarating experience for the spectators."
When queried about the season's expectations, the 27-year-old Australian all-rounder said, "With our current lineup, I believe we can engage in some truly competitive and thrilling cricket, which is exciting to consider."
In the meantime, Klinger disclosed that the team plans to adopt an aggressive strategy throughout the tournament. "You can anticipate some offensive cricket from us. I believe we possess the squad, with the batting depth and power, to approach the game with aggression. We have set ambitious goals and are determined to deliver entertaining cricket," he stated.
"Above all, I hope the audience perceives us as a vibrant group brimming with energy. This will be most apparent in our fielding, which, for us, is an absolute priority," he concluded.
