New Delhi, Sep 1 (NationPress) Following Liverpool's last-minute effort to acquire Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, head coach Oliver Glasner firmly stated that there is currently no agreement in place for his captain as the transfer deadline fast approaches.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool has submitted a revised offer valued at £35 million, which includes a 10 percent sell-on clause.
Glasner, speaking after Palace's victory at Villa Park, expressed confidence that the England international would be content to remain at Selhurst Park this season and urged club chairman Steve Parish to make the final decision.
"There is no deal. We have the authority to decide; he is our player and remains under contract. The decision lies with us. Ultimately, the chairman will determine whether Marc stays or goes.
"Our supporters deserve the best players in the squad. If we choose not to sell Marc, he will accept that. He is committed to Crystal Palace and the team," Glasner stated during his post-match press conference.
In light of this situation, Palace is exploring potential replacements, including Liverpool's Joe Gomez and Chelsea's Alex Disai, but a last-minute signing appears challenging with the transfer window closing soon.
Glasner emphasized the significance of retaining the Englishman if Palace aims for a successful season, highlighting that finding a suitable replacement in such a short time frame is unrealistic.
"We absolutely must keep Guehi if we want to have a successful season. We’ve made a fantastic start, remaining unbeaten in our first six games and winning the Community Shield. Our second achievement was qualifying for the group stage of the Conference League—and we've accomplished that. I reminded the players that while this is a solid beginning, we must build on it by winning further matches, and they did just that," Glasner remarked.
"However, this is just the beginning. To ensure a successful season, we need Marc. Finding a replacement who can step in immediately for the Premier League is virtually impossible in just one day. Our defensive structure is crucial; everyone understands their roles, and they can depend on one another. Marc is not merely a participant; he is our captain," he concluded.
