Pune, July 18 (NationPress) Junior French Shooting Team manager Eric Egretaud shared his reflections on his visit to India and his observations of the talented shooters nationwide during the most recent episode of the House of Glory podcast, hosted by the Gagan Narang Sports Foundation.
Eric emphasized the similarities between the ecosystems of both India and France, which position them as leaders in international competitions. 'There are numerous parallels between the Indian and French sporting ecosystems,' he noted.
'Initially, we anticipated significant differences in our systems, including training philosophies and techniques. However, we discovered many shared aspects in training approaches and techniques.'
What particularly stands out in India, according to Eric, is the robust support from both private and government-funded initiatives that significantly boost the sport's growth. 'The government is actively reinvesting in sports in India, which contrasts sharply with the situation in France,' he remarked. 'Our sports budget is consistently declining, and even though we had allocated funds for the Olympics, cuts are being made post-Olympics.'
Eric also recounted his experiences at the National Shooting Trials held in June 2025, where he was impressed by the level of competition. 'In France, we have a limited number of athletes, so when we identify talent, we invest heavily in their development,' he described. 'In India, there is a wealth of promising athletes across various levels, with already high standards in Group B.'
In conclusion, Eric shared his philosophy regarding athlete development: 'Concentrate on personal growth and enjoyment. It’s not solely about the results.'
