Brisbane, Sep 6 (NationPress) Australian all-rounder Grace Harris has shared her surprise at being included in the squad for the forthcoming Women’s ODI World Cup, recognizing the unexpected yet welcome news.
Having last participated in an ODI match in March 2024, she has now been selected for Australia’s team in the eight-nation tournament scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2.
"I have to say, the World Cup selection was a delightful surprise. At the beginning of the year, I thought there was no chance for me to make the ODI World Cup squad since I hadn't been regularly included in Australia's one-day teams lately,” Grace remarked.
"There are definitely other players who have demonstrated strong performances and could have been chosen instead of me. I wouldn’t have been shocked if I had been informed that I wasn't selected. So yes, the ODI World Cup selection is a pleasant surprise," she added, as reported by cricket.com.au.
As the Australian team prepares to head to India on Wednesday for a three-match ODI series against Harmanpreet Kaur's squad before the World Cup, Grace is eager to make a significant impact as a finisher in the middle-to-lower order if given the opportunity.
"I believe our one-day format and team are among the strongest and most stable. When I review the squad, I sometimes wonder, 'Who would be left out for my inclusion?'
"Our team has been dominant for the past two years, showcasing a comprehensive skill set including pace bowling, spin, and strong batting depth that extends to number eight in the lineup."
"Training over there will be a great personal growth experience for me. If I get the chance to play, I intend to seize it wholeheartedly. Competing in the ODI World Cup would be amazing – I was in New Zealand in 2022 but didn't get to play a match," she concluded.
