New Delhi, April 29 (NationPress) Gujarat Titans batsman Sai Sudharsan shared his thoughts on a night filled with missed opportunities and strategic errors that resulted in an overwhelming eight-wicket loss to Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.
Despite setting an impressive score of 209, the Titans were taken aback by a record-setting performance from 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who successfully chased down the target with 25 balls to spare.
"After our innings, we believed we had posted a competitive total, perhaps even ten runs above par. However, their explosive start proved us wrong," Sudharsan remarked.
The Royals' opening duo severely punished the GT bowlers, with Jaiswal scoring an impressive 70 not out off 40 balls. Nonetheless, it was Suryavanshi who drew all the attention, smashing a remarkable 101 off just 38 balls. Their partnership of 166 runs in just 11.5 overs shattered GT's bowling strategy, leaving them scrambling.
Sudharsan, who scored 39 runs off 30 balls and reclaimed the Orange Cap from Virat Kohli, admitted that the bowlers struggled to adjust. "No credit is taken away from Vaibhav; his batting was spectacular to witness, even from the field. Yet, we could have done better in our response. Their powerplay performance was exceptional, but we needed improved tactics," he stated.
"Perhaps we should have adjusted our lengths and been more observant of the pitch's behavior as they did in the first innings. We might have fared better had we bowled wider and avoided his hitting zone. Such adjustments could have altered the outcome," Sudharsan added.
The GT team is set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad next on May 2 in Ahmedabad.
