Manchester, May 3 (NationPress) Pep Guardiola has disclosed his intention to take a break from football following his eventual departure from Manchester City, and he is uncertain about the possibility of returning to management afterward.
Although his contract was initially set to expire at the end of the current season, Guardiola extended his commitment by signing a new deal in November, which will keep him at the club until June 2027, marking over a decade of service. Despite this immediate commitment, the Spaniard has yet to determine if he will pursue a managerial career post his current contract.
"After my contract with City, I'm going to pause. I'm certain. I don't know if that means I'll retire, but I will take a break," Guardiola shared with ESPN Brasil ahead of the Premier League home match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
"How I want to be remembered is uncertain. I hope people remember me in their own way. Every coach desires victories to solidify a memorable legacy, but I believe that the fans of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City have enjoyed watching my teams play."
"I don't think we should live our lives preoccupied with how we will be remembered. When we pass away, our families may mourn for a couple of days, and then we are forgotten. Coaches have good and bad careers, but it’s essential that the good ones are remembered longer. Ultimately, what's crucial is not how people perceive you. Our lives as footballers have been fulfilling. There are fresh challenges that come with being a coach. I cannot predict what the future holds, and in the end, that is inconsequential."
Guardiola has amassed 18 significant trophies during his eight full seasons with Manchester City, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.
The Champions League victory was part of the club's historic Treble in the 2022/23 season. Now, Guardiola is set to enhance his impressive trophy collection as City faces Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on May 17.
