Bengaluru, Feb 27 (NationPress) Deandra Dottin and Tanuja Kanwar each took two wickets as the Gujarat Giants delivered an impressive bowling performance, restricting the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a subpar total of 125/7 in Match 12 of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.
Dottin recorded figures of 2-31 while Tanuja's exceptional bowling saw her finish with 2-16 from four overs. The Gujarat Giants capitalized on the match conditions after winning the toss and choosing to bowl. Additionally, Kashvee Gautam contributed with 1-17 in her four overs as skipper Ashleigh Gardner employed a total of seven bowlers.
In search of their first victory after two losses, RCB began poorly, collapsing to 26/3 during the power-play. Danni Wyatt-Hodge was the first to depart, trapped LBW by Dottin on the fifth delivery of the innings after hitting a four. Despite reviewing the decision with DRS, it remained unchanged.
The formidable Ellyse Perry was dismissed for a duck for the first time in WPL history, misplaying a pull shot off a short ball from Ash Gardner into the hands of Tanuja Kanwar at square leg. Smriti Mandhana, the skipper, fell victim to Tanuja as she was caught by Harleen Deol at deep mid-wicket while trying to relieve the dot-ball pressure, scoring 10 runs off 20 balls with a single four.
RCB’s innings, struggling at 25/3, saw a brief revival courtesy of Kanika Ahuja and Raghvi Bist, who added 48 runs for the fourth wicket.
A brilliant pick-up-and-throw from Fulmani after Gardner dropped a catch at cover ended the partnership, with Raghvi (22) caught short while attempting a quick run.
Kanika impressed with two massive sixes, scoring 33 runs off 28 balls, including an 18-run eighth over against Priya Mishra featuring a four and the first six of the match.
Richa Ghosh (9) and Kim Garth (14) were dismissed cheaply, but Georgia Wareham managed to score an unbeaten 20, helping RCB reach a modest total.
