Sharjah, Jan 27 (NationPress) The Gulf Giants achieved their third victory in the ILT20 2024-25 season with a thrilling six-wicket triumph over the Sharjah Warriorz, thanks to a remarkable match-winning performance by Tom Alsop. This marks the franchise, owned by Adani Sportsline, second successive win this season, significantly enhancing their prospects of reaching the playoffs.

Alsop's stellar innings of unbeaten 85 runs off 60 balls enabled the Gulf Giants to successfully chase down the target of 172 runs with three deliveries remaining. His performance now stands as the highest individual score by a Gulf Giants player in the ILT20, surpassing James Vince's prior record of 76 runs.

Reflecting on his pivotal performance, Tom Alsop remarked, “It was satisfying (to lead the team to victory). The situation dictated how things unfolded. We aimed to establish partnerships, but we unfortunately lost a few wickets in clusters during the middle overs. It was my responsibility to see it through. I'm pleased we secured the win.”

After winning the toss, the Gulf Giants decided to bowl first, limiting the Sharjah Warriorz to a score of 171/6, thanks to an impressive bowling display from Blessing Muzarabani. The tall fast bowler from Zimbabwe achieved figures of 3/32, supported well by Mark Adair and Daniel Worrall, who recorded figures of 1/25 and 1/32 respectively.

Discussing his team's performance, Alsop stated, “We opted to bowl first, and our bowlers executed brilliantly after the powerplay. In the second innings, we realized there was very little margin for error for the bowlers, and the dew began to set in, making it tricky to grip the ball. It was easier to chase in those conditions.”

This victory against the Sharjah Warriorz significantly boosts the Gulf Giants' chances of advancing to the playoffs this season. Alsop noted that consecutive wins would provide his team with momentum as they move forward in the tournament.

“This will greatly assist us. We had a tough match against MI Emirates recently, and coming out victorious was crucial, and we discussed carrying that momentum forward. We brought that energy here and achieved the win. We aim to keep this going,” he added.

This is Alsop's first experience in the ILT20, and he commended the league for its high standards across the UAE. He expressed, “It’s my initial experience here. I've observed the league, and now being a part of it, the standard is exceptionally high. Last night, we faced the best T20 batter globally and the best spin bowler in the world. The competition is fantastic.”

In their next match, the Gulf Giants will face the current table leaders, Desert Vipers, on Wednesday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
