Chengdu (China), Aug 14 (NationPress) Jhoan Sebastian Guzman Bitar from Spain achieved a remarkable golden double at The World Games 2025 on Thursday, securing gold in both the inline speed skating track men's dual time trial 200m and the sprint 500m +D.

With this victory, Guzman has now amassed four gold medals in Chengdu, having previously triumphed in the inline speed skating road men's 1 Lap on Tuesday and the 100m road men's sprint on Wednesday.

"The track is excellent here in Chengdu, which I believe has positively impacted my performance," Guzman commented, expressing his intent to explore the city after his races.

From Paraguay, Julio Cesar Mirena Ortiz represented his nation as its sole athlete and made history by winning the country’s first gold medal in the 5,000m track men's point race final with a total of 23 points. "This is my second medal. It was quite challenging, but I feel very proud to have earned two medals for my country," remarked the 29-year-old, who had previously won silver in the 10,000m road men's point race on Tuesday.

China's Zhang Zhenhai earned a bronze in the men's sprint 500m +D, marking the country's inaugural medal in roller sports.

In the 5,000m track women's point race, Colombia's Gabriela Rueda and Ecuador's Gabriela Vargas Sarmiento each shared the gold, both achieving 15 points. Germany's Larissa Ursula Gaiser secured the bronze, while China's veteran Guo Dan finished in eighth place, as reported by Xinhua.

As a founding member of the International World Games Association (IWGA), roller sports at the Chengdu World Games encompass three disciplines: speed skating (road and track), inline freestyle, and inline hockey. With four more speed skating gold medals up for grabs on Friday, freestyle competitions are set to commence on Saturday.

The host nation, China, dominated Thursday's events, capturing five out of six available medals, including both men's and women's titles, as the sport climbing competition of the World Games 2025 began in Chengdu.

Chu Shouhong seized the men's speed single gold in a time of 4.80 seconds, while 2024 Paris Olympic silver medalist Deng Lijuan narrowly edged her teammate Qin Yumei by just one-hundredth of a second to claim the women's title in 6.40 seconds.

The competition field featured elite athletes. Although Paris men's silver medalist Wu Peng and women's champion Aleksandra Miroslaw of Poland were absent, four of the six medalists from the Paris Olympics took part in the events in Chengdu.

Indonesia sent a strong delegation led by Olympic champion Veddriq Leonardo, while the United States fielded men's world record holder and Olympic bronze medalist Samuel Watson alongside top-ranked Emma Hunt. Kazakhstan, Japan, and other nations also sent competitive lineups, making the start list reminiscent of an Olympic Games.

China saw two men and three women advance to the semifinals. Deng narrowly outpaced Qin in the women's final, with Zhou Yafei clinching bronze after a 6.31-second run, narrowly beating Indonesia's Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi by three-hundredths of a second. This achievement allowed the hosts to sweep all three women's medals.

In the men's gold-medal race, Watson, battling a left shoulder injury, faced off against 18-year-old Chu, who is in his first year on the international circuit. Watson had fought through elite competitors, including Leonardo and China's Long Jianguo, to reach the final. However, his time of 4.96 seconds fell short against Chu's personal-best of 4.80 seconds. Long Jianguo of China secured the men's bronze.
