Chengdu (China), Aug 9 (NationPress) Alexey Glukhov and Anastasia Glazunova from Moldova emerged victorious in the standard dance category, clinching the gold medal at The World Games 2025 on Saturday. Their impressive score of 196.58 points secured them the top position in the final held at the Chengbei Gymnasium in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province in southwest China.

The silver medal was awarded to Romania's Rares Cojoc and Andreea Matei, who finished with 193.00 points, while the bronze went to Poland's Dariusz Mycka and Madara Freiberga with 188.04 points.

In their inaugural appearance at the World Games, the duo, aged 35 and 34 respectively, captivated judges and audiences alike with their elegance, musicality, and technical skill across five distinct dances: waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, slow foxtrot, and quickstep, as reported by Xinhua.

“We are making heart signs to the audience to thank them for coming to watch our match,” Glazunova expressed. “We want to share this joyful mood with them in this moment.”

China's Tan Ran and Zhou Xinning notably advanced to the semifinals, finishing in 10th place, which ties the nation's best-ever result in standard dance at The World Games, previously achieved by Shen Hong and Liang Yujie in 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland. “This was one of the most thrilling competitions we have ever participated in,” Tan remarked. “Competing at home, with the crowd cheering for us, was a feeling unlike any other. I was nearly in tears after the quickstep.”

Zhou added that the atmosphere from the crowd provided them with additional motivation and emphasized the need for high-intensity performances from the very first dance due to the event's short format.

Chinese competitors Xu Ziyin and Yan Xinru finished in 18th place, while Xie Zi'ang and Shao Yawen ranked 19th, both failing to progress beyond the group stage.

Tan and Zhou highlighted the integration of Chinese characteristics into their performances, which are deeply rooted in Western ballroom traditions. “Chinese dancers bring a unique delicacy, sensitivity, and musical interpretation to our performances,” Tan stated.

Glukhov and Glazunova, recognized for their remarkable consistency in major competitions, have established themselves as leading standard dance pairs on the global stage, consistently reaching the finals in world and European championships over the last decade.

Standard dance remains one of the highlight disciplines of the dancesport segment at The World Games.
