Hardik Singh Attributes Success to Teamwork and Dedication After Winning HI Midfielder of the Year Award

New Delhi, March 25 (NationPress) The vice-captain of the Indian men’s hockey team, Hardik Singh, has shared his heartfelt appreciation and enthusiasm after being awarded the esteemed Hockey India Ajit Pal Singh Award for Midfielder of the Year 2024 during the recent Hockey India 7th Annual Awards.

This accolade, which comes with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, reinforces Hardik’s status as the driving force of the Indian midfield. The 26-year-old’s innovation, vision, outstanding control, and capability to shift play from defense to offense have rendered him an indispensable contributor to India’s achievements in recent years.

In reflecting on his accolade, Hardik underscored the significance of the team’s unified effort in securing success, stating, “Receiving this award is an incredible honor, but it truly reflects the hard work and solidarity of our entire squad. Since his international debut in 2018, Hardik has evolved into one of the most significant midfielders in global hockey. Often likened to the iconic Sardar Singh, Hardik's composure, enthusiasm, and tactical intelligence have been pivotal in leading India to impressive accomplishments. His performances were crucial as India secured bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, gold medals at the Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023, and the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, along with a Commonwealth Games silver in 2022.

“It’s a privilege to be compared to the legends of the sport, but for me, it’s always about honing my skills, staying composed, and ensuring I contribute to the team’s triumph,” Hardik expressed. “I feel lucky to be in this position, and I’m committed to continuous improvement, especially with major tournaments on the horizon.”

Originating from Jalandhar in Punjab, Hardik has been a reliable figure in the Indian midfield, having represented his country in 149 matches and netting 11 goals. His illustrious career has garnered multiple prestigious awards, including the Arjuna Award in 2021, the Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year in 2022 and 2023, and the FIH Player of the Year award in 2023.

Discussing his aspirations, Hardik stated, “Winning the World Cup in 2026 is a significant target for me and the team. India has only clinched the World Cup once, back in 1975, and it’s time to reclaim it. Moreover, after two consecutive bronze medals at the Olympics, our goal is to convert that into gold in Los Angeles 2028. We recognize the competitive landscape, but with the right mindset and preparation, I’m confident we can reach these objectives.”
