Lucknow, March 7 (NationPress) Harleen Deol played a pivotal role in the Gujarat Giants securing a five-wicket win against the Delhi Capitals. She enabled Beth Mooney, Deandra Dottin, and captain Ashleigh Gardner to showcase their powerful hitting while accumulating a total of 70 runs off 49 balls, ultimately clinching the victory.
The team chasing a target of 178 found themselves in a challenging position as they approached the final overs, having started slowly. However, a swift innings from Dottin set the stage for the second-highest successful run chase of the season.
Harleen expressed how effortless it is to partner with Beth, who scored 44 runs that night and forged an 85-run partnership for the second wicket, emphasizing the significance of rotating the strike.
“I aimed to bat until the end, knowing we had several power hitters waiting. Batting with Beth is straightforward; she consistently hits boundaries and takes singles. You just need to stay alert because she is very attentive when it comes to singles, and you simply close your eyes and run. When you’re with other power hitters like Dottin, it’s crucial to take a single and rotate the strike,” Harleen shared after earning her first Player of the Match award.
With 13 runs needed off the last seven balls, it was the 21-year-old Kashvee Gautam who smashed a six off purple cap holder Shikha Pandey, closing the gap significantly. Harleen revealed the advice she provided to the emerging star.
“I know she (Kashvee) excels at hitting sixes. For the ball she hit for six, I told her that Shikha was bowling straight, and the ball was staying a bit low, so I advised her to close her eyes and swing down the ground. Scoring runs and winning as a team is a dream come true. You can’t ask for anything more,” she added.
This victory brings the Gujarat Giants closer to a playoff spot. They must win their final league match to secure a place in the playoffs for the first time in the tournament's history, while the UP Warriorz have been eliminated from the race.
