New Delhi, March 8 (NationPress) Former India captain Anjum Chopra believes that the 85-run partnership between Beth Mooney and Harleen Deol established the momentum for the Gujarat Giants as they chased down 178 to secure a five-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals in the WPL 2025 match on Friday.

Harleen finished with an impressive 70 runs, including nine fours and a six, earning her the Player of the Match award. Beth contributed 44 runs, while captain Ashleigh Gardner and Deandra Dottin provided valuable support with quick scores of 22 and 24 respectively.

"The pivotal moment for Gujarat Giants was Harleen Deol's ability to remain at the crease. Had she been dismissed at any point - whether after Beth Mooney's exit or during their vital partnership - the outcome could have been drastically altered. Today, she exhibited remarkable timing with her shots. The cut shot outside the off-stump, coupled with her six, highlighted her talent. Upon reflecting on this innings, she will recognize that it was not merely a good performance; it was a match-winning contribution. The partnership between Beth Mooney and Harleen Deol was crucial," Anjum commented on Amul Cricket Live on JioHotstar.

"An early wicket could have thrown Gujarat off balance, but that partnership laid the foundation for their chase. Without it, the match could have unfolded in a very different manner. Ultimately, it’s the batter’s responsibility to see the innings through, and that’s precisely what Harleen accomplished," she added.

Anjum further analyzed the bowling performance of Delhi Capitals, stating, "While Gujarat Giants batted effectively, I wouldn’t characterize Delhi Capitals' bowling as poor. They possess one of the premier bowling line-ups and executed their strategies well. They applied pressure, remained competitive, and their bowlers maintained their discipline without overstepping their field placements. Players like Deandra Dottin and Ashleigh Gardner have the capability to clear boundaries, and they did just that.”

Meg Lanning's 92 and Shafali Verma's 40 propelled Delhi Capitals to a total of 177/5 in their 20 overs. For Gujarat, Meghna Singh secured three wickets while Deandra Dottin took two wickets.
